About Me

Dr. Campbell has decades of experience in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases and with preventing infections. He loves helping children and families by explaining and recommending treatments for various infections.

After working as a general pediatrician for four years and training in pediatric infectious diseases, Dr. Campbell joined the faculty at University of Maryland School (UMSOM) in 2001. He is a professor of pediatrics and interim head of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Pediatrics at UMSOM.

Dr. Campbell is a national leader in pediatric infectious diseases. His research focuses on vaccines for children. He enjoys caring for children and their families and advocating for children’s health, especially with regard to infection prevention. He is vice chair of the Committee on Infectious Diseases for the American Academy of Pediatrics, which writes policies for caring for children with infections and infection prevention.

On multiple occasions, Dr. Campbell has been recognized by Baltimore magazine as a "Top Doc" honoree in the pediatric infectious diseases specialty. Also, in 2021, he was named Pediatrician of the Year by the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He spent five years working for the CDC while living in Uganda.
